Watch the trends - Create Opportunities
Hands up if you already know that you want to start a business BUT you don't have an idea? Ah yes, at least a handful. I often meet young people through my seminars and workshops who already know that they want to have their own business ("someday") but they haven't yet found that idea to move ahead on. Well, here is some help - watch the trends. Start looking at the statistics about what is happening out there, because that is where opportunity lies. What do I mean? Well below is a statistic I read in BRW recently - benign enough yes, but for the entrepreneur it is a light bulb flashing PICK ME! Have a read.....
Financial Planners Wanted
Australia will need 3000 new financial planners in the next 12 months to cope with growing demands for financial advice, particularly from baby boomers heading for retirement, according to Brisbane’s Griffith University. BRW June 2007
So if you are any way financially inclined then perhaps start training yourself up, and start your own financial planning business. Just you first, and then because of your awesome service and results for your customers you will need to get more people involved as demand for your services grow. And before you know it this trend you noticed as turned into a full blown business. Just like you have always wanted!!!
So what trends have you noticed lately that is a flashing lightbulb to budding young entrepreneurs?

Hi Anonymous
So glad to hear you enjoy the blog - thanks.
I like your suggestion about the colours, I will see what I can do :)
So do you run your own business?

Jessica, the blog is very insightful and it is only limited by the red background :)
Good tip on trend watching as means to get a business idea.
I personally think that Australian entrepreneurs have an advantage because many big international trends don't hit our markets after a considerable delay. The new IT resurgence is a good example...
HI Anthony
Thanks for your comments. Hope you appreciate the new colour background!!
Totally agree in regards to Australian entrepreneurs being able to take advantage of time-lags in international trends.....just see Nudie juices as an eg. SO yep - young aussie entreprenuers can head overseas and watch out for the products and services we dont have yet and then bring them on over to the australian market.
Thanks

Its interesting that you should mention Nudie. I was recently at their website and it looks fantastic and very creative (even though it has relatively low traffic).
On a side note Jessica, the ANU SIFE society has just started its Financial Literacy Blog aimed at less advantaged people. The site is at: http://mindyourownmoney.com.au
It could def do with some FRANK advice. Any ideas?
What I found is that successful entrepreneurs have an idea that fall into one of three categories (i) scratching an itch, (ii) building a better mouse trap or (iii) satisfying a need people didn't know they had.
The last category is particularly challenging since it is difficult to estimate whether there is going to be any interest in a radical new product. But if you've got it right, you're bound to be successful. The iPod is a good example of such a product.
In regards to Australia and the World, I believe there is a great potential for Australian initiatives to be trendsetting.
